Greetings fellow crafting enthusiasts! Today I am super excited to tell you about one of my new favorite things! Drumroll please…
Check out the fabulous new Mod Melter! This device is a wonderful new tool that can be used in all sorts of creative ways! The Mod Melter is the new and improved all purpose glue gun designed by Cathie & Steve to improve upon the design of the traditional glue gun. It’s perfect for using as a glue gun, but you can also use it to embellish and make your own custom molded trinkets! The creative possibilities are endless!!!
This week I used the new Mod Melter to create a fabulous Mexican inspired necklace that also incorporates Podgeable Shapes, Podgeable Papers, Mod Podge, Mod Melts, chain, wire, Mexican Milagros, flat back gems, JAX Pewter Black and some embossing powder from Clearsnap. I have worn this necklace out to a jewelry class and got so many compliments! People thought it was made completely of metal! And the great thing is, it was SO quick and easy to make!
I began by playing around with some supplies and familiarizing myself with the Mod Melter.
Then I made some quick and cute clips by using the Mod Melter to adhere some large milagros to some mini clothespins. I think they came out really cute! Perfect for a last minute gift!!!
Then I got to work making my necklace. I used the glossy Mod Podge to decoupage the Podgeable Papers to the back of the Podgeable Shapes. Then I used the Mod Melter to adhere the milagros to the front of the shapes. I intentionally used a lot of gold Mod Melt so it would stick well and also for the metallic handmade effect that this product gives!
I love how the patterned paper shows through. The look is really dimensional!
I used the JAX Pewter Black to distress some of the larger milagros.
I just love the color, thickness and dimension of the Mod Melts and how beautifully they present this Virgin of Guadalupe milagro!
These star shaped flat back gems stand out beautifully against the gold Mod Melt! I am excited to try this technique on some larger projects!
I used an easy rustic wire wrapping technique to connect the custom charms to the chain. I just love the juxtaposing mixed metals and the upscale antique feel of this piece!
The Podgeable Papers are double sided and the other side had a pattern that didn’t go with my theme. Hence, another opportunity for further embellishment! I used some metallic antique gold embossing powder to cover the backs of the charms.
This technique made my necklace even more metallic, beautiful and coordinated! And here’s how the finished piece came out!
Here are some fun facts and videos about the fabulous Mod Melter and accompanying products that I used to make this awesome project!
