Deck The Halls with Stencil1 Ornament Kits

Seasons Greetings crafters! I’m back with another fun project tutorial for Stencil1! This festive holiday project is made possible by the new Traditional Ornament Kit from Stencil1! This beautiful and highly customizable kit features blank ornaments that support a very worthy cause. Each set of eco-friendly ornaments is crafted sustainably by a company that rehabilitates and enables its workers formerly suffering from addiction, providing them with shelter and jobs!

For this set I worked with the Traditional Ornament Kit, but you could also make a set with the Geometric Ornament Kit! Stencil1 also sells the stand alone Ornament Shapes, cool Swallow Ornaments, and a beautiful Swallow Ornament Kit that would make a great early Christmas present for the crafter in your life! Click HERE to check out the complete assortment of kits from Stencil1! But back to the project at hand…

I began by applying a base coat of acrylic craft paint to both sides of the 6 included ornaments shapes in some festive holiday colors…IMG_2486 IMG_2491

Once the base coat was dry, I busted out the included set of 4 different stencils, 3 of which feature multiple stencil designs on one stencil! If you do the math, that adds up to a TON of different stencil design combination possibilities! Did I mention that math is not my thing?IMG_2495

For the red Christmas ball ornament, I topped the base coat with a generous helping of shiny red glitter applied with ordinary school glue.IMG_2498

Handy Hint! Work atop a coffee filter to easily collect the excess glitter and redirect it back into the jar!IMG_2499 IMG_2501

I set it aside to dry and repeated this step on both sides. I also glittered the two skinny ornaments with the same technique. IMG_2502

Then I was ready to begin embellishing the gold reindeer! I used a metal scraper (you could also use a palette knife) to apply thick texture medium to the ornament. For this one I chose the included Stripes stencil as it evokes a swift sense of movement to the reindeer, like racing stripes!IMG_2505 IMG_2506 IMG_2509 IMG_2510

While the racing reindeer was drying, I set to work on embellishing the red ball ornament. I mixed up some gold paint with the texture medium and applied it to the ornament, this time with the Ornaments stencil. IMG_2514 IMG_2516

Then I applied a layer of thick rustic gold glitter to the design as shown…IMG_2517 IMG_2520 IMG_2522

While that piece was drying, I added texture medium to the tapered bulb ornament this time using a different design from the same Ornaments stencil. IMG_2526 IMG_2529

Then I was ready to trim the tree! The tree ornament that is! For this one, I stenciled a layer of contrasting red paint onto the tree with the String of Dots stencil. IMG_2531

Then without moving the stencil, I applied a layer of school glue on top of the paint and then topped that with some bright chunky red glitter!IMG_2532

This technique made my tree look like it was adorned with little shiny red ornaments!IMG_2534

I also added some white textured stars to the wavy thin ornament with the included Star Rows stencil. Then I added more of the rustic gold glitter to one of the skinny ornaments using the Stripes stencil.

To add a luxe touch, I used a dry brush technique to accent the edges of the green ornaments with antique gold craft paint.

To add a sparkly touch of bling for the holiday season, I accented the reindeer and one of the skinny ornaments with gold adhesive rhinestones. I used the stencils as a handy guide for evenly positioning the bling. IMG_2540

The only reason I stopped was because I ran out of room to embellish! I had so much fun decorating these blank ornaments with Stencil1‘s trendy yet timeless designs! And all the while I was thinking about the very noble cause behind the manufacture of these beautiful blank holiday canvasses! Here are some close ups of the finished products…

And here’s a shot of the complete set featuring a variety of dimensional embellishment techniques!IMG_2574

I highly recommend Stencil1’s Ornament Kits! They are perfect for crafting in groups, crafting with kids, solo crafting or for giving as an early Christmas gift to the crafter in your life! Display your finished pieces on the Christmas tree, on a wreath, or as a special gift tag for an ultra luxurious presentation of a wrapped gift, or dangling from a gift bag! You could even stick one to a mailed greeting card for a 3D and functional touch! The creative possibilities are truly endless!

Easy Patchwork Sneakers with the Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System

Hello friends! I’m excited to share this fun project with you which I created all on the Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System!

The PE540D is the perfect entry level embroidery machine that comes pre-loaded with 105 built-in embroidery designs, including 35 designs featuring Disney characters, plus 5 embroidery lettering styles!

PE540D In Studio

For this project I embroidered some cute sewing theme designs onto some heavyweight cotton to begin making my own little custom patches. This machine features computer connectivity, so I simply loaded my design from my computer onto the machine with the included USB cord. You could also do this project with any of the built-in designs that come pre-loaded on the machine, or you could purchase the design of your choice from ibroidery.com. They happen to be having an awesome 20% OFF SALE right now up until February 28th! And be sure to sign up HERE to receive FREE embroidery designs and special offers! I went with a monochromatic embroidery design and chose some pretty purple embroidery thread from my stash!

And speaking of stash, check out my fabulous new Super Satchel Thread Box from ArtBin! It’s perfect for keeping all of my various embroidery threads organized! I absolutely love it!

I embroidered the designs and then made my own adhesive patches by backing the designs with Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Sheets. They are perfect for making your own peel and stick patches and the adhesive is super strong! I then cut the patches with some Westcott Brand NonStick Scissors.

Next I embellished the patches using some bright neon Crafty Chica Juicy Fabric Inks.

Here’s a close up of one of my cute sneaker patches with a funky little sewing machine!

I made a whole bunch of these and decorated my sneakers with them. I think the frayed edges really add to the handmade look!

This is a great way to jazz up a plain pair of sneakers and customize them to suit your own particular sense of style, interests or hobbies!

I love how the Brother PE540D easily empowers me to create my own custom clothing and accessories! It’s just so fun and inspiring! I am working on a video tutorial for this project and am excited to share it with you once posted! Thanks so much for tuning into my adventure into the world of sewing and machine embroidery with Brother!

Disney Remix Shirt Dress with the Brother Innov-Is 990D

Happy Friday Friends and Fellow Sewing Enthusiasts! Today I’m super excited to share my latest project from my exploration into the world of home sewing and machine embroidery with the Brother Innov-IS 990D Combination Sewing and Embroidery Machine! Check out this fabulous upcycled Disney frock!

I created a fun shirt dress by cutting off the bottom part of a men’s dress shirt and combining it with a sewn and gathered blue polka dot bubble skirt! This project was super easy to do, and I added some fun custom touches to give it a super cute look! For one, I swapped out the original buttons for blue heart shaped buttons. This was my first time using the button sewing feature on the Brother Innov-IS 990D Combination Sewing and Embroidery Machine! At first I avoided this feature because I was afraid that I would do it wrong and break the needle by sewing into the button but much to my delight the process was actually totally fun and easy! I vow that from this day forward I will never hand sew a button on again! Unless of course I find myself in an emergency wardrobe malfunction with out my trusty 990D!

I added a Minnie Mouse “Pocket Pal” detail using one of the built-in embroidery designs that come pre-loaded on the machine. However, instead of following the included color guide with the usual pink or red, I switched up the colors and gave Minnie matching a blue dress and hair bow! I love how this machine comes with built-in Disney designs and allows me to mix it up and create my own different colored versions of these fun classic characters!

To add an element of surprise, I incorporated another one of the built-in designs onto the back of the shirt. For this I embroidered the built-in Minnie Mouse signature design in the large size. I think this detail added a really upscale touch to my beautiful upcycled dress!

The dress I designed also includes a satin ribbon sash that runs through two belt loops on the sides, giving this cute look a really tailored effect. This dress was super easy to create and could be easily customized by changing the color or style of the shirt, the fabric for the skirt, the buttons or by choosing different embroidery designs, either from the built in designs that come pre-loaded on the machine or from any of the many awesome designs available to purchase and download from ibroidery.com! You could also alter the length of the skirt, or even edit the sleeves! There’s so much you can do with this fun dress shirt remix idea, the possibilities for creative fashion are endless! I’m working on a video tutorial to show you how to create this fun project at home, so stay tuned friends!
