Monogrammed Necktie for Dad with the Brother PE540D

Hello fellow machine embroidery enthusiasts! Today I am excited to share with you this quick and easy monogrammed necktie project that I created on the Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System!

L1120150

This is a great project to make for a man’s gift for Father’s Day or a birthday and can be customized to suit any event or occasion – no pun intended! You could even personalize it with embroidery designs of Dad’s favorite hobbies!

L1120146

I created this project by embroidering an inexpensive ready made  tie that I purchased at my local superstore. I began by mounting the tie onto some adhesive tear away stabilizer to hoop it up and get it ready for the monogram!

L1120147

I made use of one of the elegant built-in embroidery fonts to create the monogram.

L1120148

I think this project came out really nice, especially considering the short amount of time and money that was spent on it! But let’s keep that part a secret when presenting Dad with this very special customized Father’s Day gift!

L1120154

If you are interested in taking your monogramming to the next level, I recommend that you also check out Brother’s extensive collection of embroidery software programs. Here’s an example of the things you can do with the one I downloaded, called Macbroidery Embroidery Lettering Software.

macbroidery 4

This software comes with tons or really interesting fonts! Above you can see an example of the same monogram in one of the fonts.

Macbroidery 1

I also played around with trying my name on different garments. You can see how your designs would look in different thread colors on different items such as hats, onesies, aprons, shirts and more!

macbroidery 2

If you’re a Mac user, I encourage you to download a free trial version and to try it out! The software also comes with a whole bunch of borders, accents, embroidery and applique designs!

macbroidery 3

I am excited to play around some more with the software and see what designs I can come up with! And the great thing is, if you happen to not be a computer person, you can easily do this project with any of the built-in fonts and embroidery designs that come pre-loaded on the Brother PE540D! So whether you want to get high-tech or keep things simple, you are sure to have a total blast and make great projects with Brother Machine Embroidery!

Easy Patchwork Sneakers with the Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System

Hello friends! I’m excited to share this fun project with you which I created all on the Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System!

L1110782

The PE540D is the perfect entry level embroidery machine that comes pre-loaded with 105 built-in embroidery designs, including 35 designs featuring Disney characters, plus 5 embroidery lettering styles!

PE540D In Studio

For this project I embroidered some cute sewing theme designs onto some heavyweight cotton to begin making my own little custom patches. This machine features computer connectivity, so I simply loaded my design from my computer onto the machine with the included USB cord. You could also do this project with any of the built-in designs that come pre-loaded on the machine, or you could purchase the design of your choice from ibroidery.com. They happen to be having an awesome 20% OFF SALE right now up until February 28th! And be sure to sign up HERE to receive FREE embroidery designs and special offers! I went with a monochromatic embroidery design and chose some pretty purple embroidery thread from my stash!

L1110685

And speaking of stash, check out my fabulous new Super Satchel Thread Box from ArtBin! It’s perfect for keeping all of my various embroidery threads organized! I absolutely love it!

L1110708

I embroidered the designs and then made my own adhesive patches by backing the designs with Aleene’s Fabric Fusion Sheets. They are perfect for making your own peel and stick patches and the adhesive is super strong! I then cut the patches with some Westcott Brand NonStick Scissors.

L1110741

Next I embellished the patches using some bright neon Crafty Chica Juicy Fabric Inks.

L1110751

Here’s a close up of one of my cute sneaker patches with a funky little sewing machine!

L1110769

I made a whole bunch of these and decorated my sneakers with them. I think the frayed edges really add to the handmade look!

L1110787

This is a great way to jazz up a plain pair of sneakers and customize them to suit your own particular sense of style, interests or hobbies!

L1110782

I love how the Brother PE540D easily empowers me to create my own custom clothing and accessories! It’s just so fun and inspiring! I am working on a video tutorial for this project and am excited to share it with you once posted! Thanks so much for tuning into my adventure into the world of sewing and machine embroidery with Brother!

Embroidered Duffle Bag With the Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System

close up

I recently made a trip out to New Mexico to film segments for Creative Living on PBS. While there I accumulated so many great craft supplies and souvenirs that I had to buy an extra bag just to get everything back home. So I opted for this cheap, collapsible duffle bag from Walmart and I gotta say, I absolutely LOVE it!

image1

It’s one of my new favorite travel items and for obvious reasons! It zips up to a small size and is there for me when I need extra space for all my extra goodies picked up along the way!

image2

However the basic black was kind of blah! So I decided to jazz it up using my new Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System! Using 2 of the built-in airplane embroidery designs, one of the built-in airplane applique designs, one of the built-in  monogram initials, and one of the built-in adjustable size fonts, I created a clever bag that humorously sums up my inevitable recurring travel predicament! Pack light??? Yeah right!!!

The PE540D is perfect for making quick and easy customized projects such as these! Just think of all the  custom duffle bags you could make for your kid’s dance class, sporting equipment, camping gear, school, the gym and more! The features on the Brother PE540D Personal Embroidery System  machine are amazing! Here is is in use at my new craft studio!
